SC bars acting chairman PEMRA from work

ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court (SC) has barred the acting Chairman of Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) Dr Abdul Jabbar from functioning, Dunya News reported on Thursday.

 

The SC was hearing the petition pertaining to the formation of judicial commission.

 

During the hearing, Justice Jawwad S Khawaja remarked that PEMRA has been unable to appoint a permanent chairman for the past one and a half year. Dr Abdul Jabbar was appointed as a caretaker but he had been passing orders in abundance. Therefore, he cannot continue any further as the acting chairman.

 

While ordering the government to appoint a permanent chairman, the SC adjourned the hearing till one week.
