Govt's timely action ensured availability of flour: CM Elahi
Mr Elahi vowed indiscriminate action against elements involved in smuggling of flour.
LAHORE (Dunya News) - Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Parvez Elahi said on Monday effective measure by the provincial government, including establishment of new sale points, have ensured availability of flour in the province.
The chief minister said daily wheat quota of flour mills has been increased by 29,000 metric tons. He said directions have been issued to officials concerned to ensure availability of the commodity.
Mr Elahi vowed indiscriminate action against elements involved in smuggling of flour and reiterated that the government has ample reserves of wheat to meet needs of the province.
On Sunday, Chaudhry Parvez Elahi doubled wheat quota of flour mills amid mounting crisis in the province.
The chief minister said 1.84 million 10 kg flour bags would be available at government rates across Punjab and flour mills would be released 26,000 tonnes of government wheat exceeding their demand.
He maintained that the prices of local wheat and flour will decrease significantly by increasing government quota.
Mr Elahi said the government was providing targeted subsidy to poor though Punjab Ehsaas Program. He reiterated that no stone will remain unturned to ensure provision of floor at government fixed prices.
