(Dunya News) - The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has refuted media reports claiming that the names of the two new Pakistan Super League (PSL) franchises have been finalized.

In a press release issued on Thursday, the PCB clarified that no decision has yet been made regarding the official names of new teams. The board stated that the successful bidders will have the right to choose a team name from the list of proposed cities, as outlined in the bidding documents.

The PCB had published the tender for franchise rights of the two new PSL teams on November 15, 2025, with the deadline for submission set for December 15, 2025.

The board also urged fans and social media users not to rely on unofficial sources or consider unverified information as final. It stressed that only PCB announcements should be treated as authentic.

The PCB has proposed six potential cities for the two new teams: Hyderabad, Sialkot, Muzaffarabad, Faisalabad, Gilgit and Rawalpindi.

The clarification comes after several media reports on Wednesday claimed that Gilgit and Faisalabad had been confirmed as the two new PSL franchises, information the PCB has now categorically denied.

PSL, which began in 2016 with five teams, expanded to six franchises with the addition of Multan Sultans in 2018. The inclusion of two more sides would mark its first major restructuring in seven years and push the total number of teams to eight.
