Bollywood stars express grief over Lahore park blast

(Web Desk) – Famous Bollywood actors and actresses on Monday expressed harmony with Pakistan after a suicide attack in Lahore that claimed several lives.

At least 72 people were killed and hundreds injured, many of them children, when a suicide bomber blew himself up in a crowded park in Lahore on Sunday evenng.

Explosives packed with ball bearings ripped through crowds near a Gulshan Iqbal Park’s play area, leaving dozens dead or bloodied.

Witnesses described children screaming as people carried the injured in their arms, while frantic relatives searched for loved ones.

"The bomber managed to enter the park and blew himself up near the kids’ playing area where kids were on the swings," top administration official Muhammad Usman stated.

Officials said the toll -- already the highest in an attack this year -- was expected to rise. A Lahore rescue official confirmed 72 people were dead, and said the number of injured stood at 340.

The prominent showbiz personalities took to the social networking website Twitter and criticised the "senseless violence" by trending #PrayForLahore and #LahoreAttack and #LahoreBlast.

Actress and Indian parliament member Kirron Kher stated that the terrorism follows no boundary. She said the killing of children and women in Lahore was shocking and deplorable. She also offered condolences with the frantic families.

Actress and producer Dia Mirza expressed great disappointment by saying that the smiles and innocence of little ones have wiped out due to the terror attack in Lahore.

Esha Gupta who has recently started her career in Bollywood movies also raised hands in the solidarity with the sufferers, urging to revise the text books every year with a new history.

Indian film director, actor and producer Shekhar Kapur emotionally asked about the crime of children who were enjoying on a swing before the blast.

Actress Sonakshi Sinha bashed that attack, expressing sympathy with the bereaved families and the victims.

Renowned Actor Sidharth Malhotra said he was disheartened after hearing about the appalling terrorist act and extended his heartfelt commiseration to the people affected by the explosion.
