HEC to conduct 15th APIU debate contest from Oct 1

HEC is going to conduct 15th All Pakistan Inter-University debate contest from Oct.

A spokesman for the HEC said that first round of Inter-University level would begin from Oct 1 while second round contest would start at regional and provincial level from Dec 1.He said that final round would start at national level during March and April next year. The students of all public and private sector universities are invited to participate in the contest to win Allama Iqbal Shield, he added.All Pakistan Inter-University Debate Contest for award of Allama Iqbal Shield is an annual activity of HEC for public and private sector universities of Pakistan. Debates open new views of the art of public speaking among university students.They not only promote communication skills and critical thinking but also afford an opportunity to develop better understanding of social, economic and political issues among the students.The forum provides a chance to ask beating questions and pursue their answers.The Higher Education Commission (HEC), formerly the University Grant Commission, is the primary regulator of higher education in Pakistan. In Pakistan till 2002, Universities were recognized by the University Grants Commission (UGC) which gets its confirmation from The University Grants Commission Act, 1974.The Act was repealed in 2002 by the Higher Education Commission Ordinance, 2002 and since then, Higher Education Commission of Pakistan (HEC) is responsible for higher education policy, quality assurance, degree recognition, development of new institutions and raise of existing institutions in Pakistan.It also eased the development of higher educational system in Pakistan. Its main purpose was to upgrade universities in Pakistan to be centres of education, research and development.The HEC has played a leading role towards building a knowledge based economy in Pakistan by giving out hundreds of doctoral scholarships for education abroad every year. Dr. Javaid Laghari is the last obligatory appointed HEC Chairman.
