VEHARI (Dunya News) – The Punjab Police Department has suspended an SHO and two ASIs in connection with the murder of a lawyer in an alleged police encounter, Dunya News reported here on Thursday.
Zeeshan Shabbir was reportedly killed during a staged police encounter in Vehari. The incident drew the attention of Punjab Prosecutor General Syed Farhad Ali Shah, who objected to the investigation being handled by the police themselves.
Syed Farhad Ali Shah stated that deaths occurring in police custody fall under the investigative mandate of the FIA. He directed that the case of Zeeshan Shabbir be probed under the Custodial Death and Torture Act.
Vehari DPO on the directives of Punjab Prosecutor General has sent the case to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) for investigation.
Meanwhile, the Punjab Bar has decided to continue the strike until the accused in the incidents that took place in Vehari and Jhang are arrested.
DIG has been appointed as the inquiry officer with regard to the transfer of Vehari DPO.
