350 cases registered for violation of traffic rules on highways

LAHORE (Dunya News) - According to the report of Punjab Highway Patrol, 350 cases of violation of traffic rules on highways were registered during the last week.

According to details, on the direction of Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Shoaib Dastagir, timely operations of Punjab Highway Patrol (PHP) are underway to protect the lives and property of the people on the highways.

Releasing the weekly performance report of the force, Punjab Highway Patrol Headquarters said that 350 cases of violation of traffic rules on highways were registered during the last week and 10 accused were arrested.

According to the report, action was taken against 92 people for illegal, green and fake number plates. 66 cases were registered against violators for illegal possession and display of firearms.

85 cases of drug offenses were registered, 2244 liters of liquor and 13.871kg of hashish were recovered. Six rifles, nine guns, 50 pistols, 29 cartridges, 12 magazines and 451 bullets were recovered from the possession of the accused.

The report said that 8 missing children were reunited with their parents while 132 passengers were assisted in case of various problems during the journey. While taking action against the encroachments, the patrolling police removed 93 temporary encroachments.

According to Additional IGP PHP Capt (retd) Zafar Iqbal, officers and personnel should be on high alert to protect the lives and property of the people on the highways. PHP aims to protect citizens and provide selfless service under the ‘Safe Highways, Safe People’ Vision.
