ATM machines are even devoid of monthly inspection let alone maintenance

KARACHI (Dunya News) – ATM related crimes in Karachi pertaining to authorities’ negligence. The fresh surge in ATM related crimes is partly due to negligence on part of bank authorities evident from the fact that most of the ATM’s in Karachi do not have necessary security checks.

ATM machines are even devoid of monthly inspection let alone maintenance.

Some ATM machine chambers have faulty cameras while others don’t have a camera at all. On the other hand, there are some ATM machines in Karachi that lack doors to their chambers.

While the police have mostly failed to ensure the financial safety of the citizens from physical crimes, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has failed to ensure the financial safety of citizens from hacking related crimes.

All the while, citizens pay the price of the negligence and incompetence of relevant authorities.

Earlier, a private bank has lost as much as Rs 10 million due to skimming frauds where skimming devices were placed on the ATM machines which tracked users’ pin number. As much as 10 million were extracted in total from the accounts of many ATM users.

While the ATM related fancy hacking crimes were on the rise, citizens could not even keep their ATM extracted money from muggers when a woman named Chanda along with armed men started robbing people who left ATMs after extracting money.
