Lower staff involved in mobile phone smuggling at Karachi airport

The customs officials launched an investigation into the matter.

KARACHI (Daily Dunya) – The revelations have been made regarding involvement of lower staff in smuggling of mobile phones worth millions at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi.

According to sources, the directorate general of intelligence and investigation custom enforcement received information about sending mobile phones abroad without paying duty charges with the assistance of lower staff.

The customs officials launched an investigation into the matter and recovered two bags having 96 expensive mobile phones. They said that no one claimed ownership of the bags after which proper probe has been started.

They said that all the things being dispatched to other countries are bound to pay duty tax but the lower staff puts these goods in their bags and easily comes out of the airport.

They also revealed that Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has failed to find clue of this smuggling because of not doing enrollment of the mobile phones.
