First resgination comes after Pakistan's T20 World Cup exit

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Aleem Dar has resigned from Pakistan’s national selection committee after the team’s dismal performance in the ICC T20 World Cup.

Dar submitted his resignation to officials of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) following Pakistan’s failure to reach the semi-finals of the tournament.

The decision comes amid expected changes within the team management and selection setup after the early exit.

He had been appointed to the selection committee on October 11, 2024, bringing his vast international experience to the panel.

With Dar’s departure, the selection committee is now comprised of Aaqib Javed and Asad Shafiq.

Data analyst Usman Hashmi remains part of the panel but does not hold voting rights; his role is limited to providing statistical insights and performance analysis to assist the selectors in decision-making.

Earlier, Pakistan's shortcomings were laid bare during their lacklustre T20 World Cup campaign which ended last week when the team failed to reach the semi-finals.

From the captain Salman Agha, who was criticised for not being a T20 player, to slow batting rates and the use of all-rounders not up to the job, Pakistan were shown to be behind the times in the rapid-fire format.

Pakistan had high hopes for the T20 World Cup after sweeping Australia 3-0 in a pre-tournament series.

They boasted a quintet of spinners that should have been suited to the turning pitches in Sri Lanka where they played all their matches.
