LAHORE (Dunya News) - In a major development for the Pakistan Super League (PSL), Multan Sultans has been sold to Walee Tech for a record-breaking Rs2.45 billion, marking the highest-ever bid in the league’s history.

The new owner has also changed its name from Multan to Rawalpindi.

The auction process, held in Lahore, saw participation from five bidders, with intense competition for ownership of one of the PSL’s most popular franchises.

The base price for the Multan Sultans franchise was set at Rs1.82 billion.

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi formally initiated the bidding process for Multan Sultans.

The auction ceremony was attended by former PCB chairman Najam Sethi, legendary former Pakistan batter Zaheer Abbas, and Lahore Qalandars owners Sameen Rana and Atif Rana, among other prominent figures from the cricketing fraternity.

Multan Sultans are regarded as one of the PSL’s leading and most successful franchises, which fueled strong interest among bidders vying for ownership rights.

It is worth recalling that the franchise became available after former owner Ali Tareen declined to renew the 10-year ownership agreement, prompting the PCB to announce a fresh auction for the team.

The record sale underscores the growing commercial value and popularity of the PSL as it continues to expand its footprint in global franchise cricket.
