MUMBAI (Web Desk) - Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has described Pakistan as strong contenders for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, highlighting their balance of emerging talent and experience.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin shared an in-depth analysis of Pakistan’s squad, openly discussing both strengths and weaknesses.

He noted that his assessment was purely from a cricketing perspective, even if it may not please everyone.

Ashwin identified Pakistan’s opening pair of Sahibzada Farhan and Saim Ayub as the team’s biggest strength, with Babar Azam expected to bat in the middle order.

He praised Saim Ayub’s aggressive approach during the powerplay, calling it a key factor in putting early pressure on opposition bowlers.

In the bowling department, Ashwin lauded Shaheen Shah Afridi’s powerplay impact, citing his economy rate of 6.5. He also termed Abrar Ahmed and Mohammad Nawaz as effective options, noting Nawaz’s control and Abrar’s ability to trouble batters with his variations.

However, Ashwin pointed out concerns, including Babar Azam’s adjustment to the middle order and the death-over performances of Shaheen Afridi and Naseem Shah.

He also mentioned Shadab Khan’s dip in recent form and said team combination decisions could influence results.

Despite the concerns, Ashwin believes Pakistan remain a dangerous side due to their depth and rising talent. He highlighted Salman Ali Agha as an underrated player capable of changing matches.

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup will be held from February 7 to March 8 in India and Sri Lanka, with Pakistan set to begin their campaign against the Netherlands on Saturday.
