Pakistan may boycott the world cup if India did not participate in Champions Trophy 2025
(Web Desk) – Board of Control for Cricket in Indian (BCCI) Vice President Rajeev Shukla has responded to the reports claiming that Pakistan would boycott the T20 World Cup 2026 over Champions Trophy snub.
Speaking at Uttar Pradesh Premier League players’ auction ceremony, Shukla said Pakistan side was free to take its decision about visiting Indian for the world cup.
He indicated that Indian team could potentially travel to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025 if approval is granted by the government. He highlighted that it is crucial to get a nod from the government to travel to the neighbouring country for the cricket event.
Another senior BCCI official said there might be retaliation from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) if India did not visit Pakistan for the Champions Trophy.
He said it was not in the hands of the BCCI to take decision about Team India’s travel to Pakistan as it requires permission from the government.
Pakistan is set to host the Champions Trophy in February-March 2025 amid uncertainty over India’s participation in the mega cricket event.
Reports claimed that the BCCI had asked the International Cricket Council (ICC) to relocate the Champions Trophy from Pakistan or schedule India matches at a neutral venue.
