(Web Desk) – Though Pakistan were eliminated from the T20 World Cup 2024, Babar Azam on Sunday set another record by becoming top scoring captain in the format.

Babar steadied Pakistan’s innings as the batting line messed up chasing a small total of 107 runs against Ireland. He kept his calm and scored 32 runs to lead his team to three-wicket victory. In the process, Babar broke former India captain MS Dhoni’s record.

Babar is now leading the list with 549 runs as captain with the most runs in T20 World Cups. Dhoni has scored 527 runs, while New Zealander Kane Williamson is third with 527 runs. However, Babar took 17 innings to compile his runs compared to Dhoni’s 29.

It may be recalled that recently Babar became leading scorer in T20 International cricket leaving behind India’s Virat Kohli.
