KARACHI (Web Desk) – Former Pakistan captain and all-rounder Shahid Afridi has urged the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to adopt a policy of one captain for all formats of the popular sport in Pakistan.

Speaking to reporters, Afridi said the PCB must have one captain for all formats and there was no need to have a a vice-captain. Such a policy would give a clear message to all players who was in charge, said Afridi.

This comes after star batter Babar Azam stepped down from captaincy in all three formats following Pakistan's early exit from the ODI World Cup last year. Afridi stressed the need for one captain and no vice-captain to provide clarity and a clear chain of command within the team.

The former cricketing icon underlined the need for stability and continuity in leadership roles to foster team cohesion and performance enhancement.

He advocated for providing the appointed captain a tenure spanning two to three years, allowing ample time to implement strategic plans and overcome challenges.

He stressed that in the absence of a captain during matches, a designated player should seamlessly assume the mantle of leadership.

Shahid Afridi’s son-in-law, Shaheen Shah Afridi, has been entrusted with the captaincy of the T20I team, supported by Mohammad Rizwan as the vice-captain.

In the Test arena, Shan Masood has been appointed as the team captain, while during the recent Australia tour, Shaheen Afridi also served as a captain of T20I.
