India beat England by 100 runs in World Cup clash
(Web Desk) – India defeated England by 100 runs in the World Cup clash in Lucknow on Sunday.
Winning the toss and elected to bowl first, England restricted India to 229 runs. Indian captain Rohit Sharma remained the top scorer with 87 runs while Suryakumar Yadav also played a handy innings of 49 runs.
England’s David Willey took three important wickets while Adil Rashid and Chris Woakes grabbed two wickets each.
In reply, the defending world champion bowled out for 129 runs in the 35th over.
India’s Shami took four wickets while Bumrah picked up three wickets.
Earlier, India lost three wickets in quick succession against the defending champion England. Opener Shubman Gill and one-down Virat Kohli fell cheaply to a spirited English bowling.
Gill could score nine runs before Chris Woakes shattered his stumps.
Veteran Kohli tried to hit the England David Willey out of ground but failed. However, Willey emerged victor when he had him caught by Ben Stokes for nought.
Shreyas Iyer became the second victim of Woakes when Mark Wood held a catch to dismiss him for four runs.
Later, Rohit Sharma and Rahul added 91 runs to the total, rescuing their team from a disaster.

Earlier coverage: England's title defence is only mathematically alive since they have slumped to the bottom of the points table following five defeats in six matches.
"We need to focus on the cricket that we know we can play, and in the way we want to play," Buttler said.
"We will bring our best and make the most of the occasion.
"Playing against India in a World Cup in front of a packed crowd is always something special."
Their task will be cut out against hosts India, who remain the only unbeaten team in the tournament after playing five matches.

Home captain Rohit Sharma said they wanted to bat first anyway.
"It's a good opportunity for us, it looks like a good pitch. We don't mind batting first," Sharma said.
