World Cup 2023: Empty stadium sparks social media outrage
(Web Desk) – The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India, the largest cricket stadium in the world, looked deserted during the highly anticipated ICC World Cup 2023 match between New Zealand and England on Thursday.
The 132,000-capacity venue set to host three crucial matches of the mega tournament, including clash between arch-rivals Pakistan and India scheduled for Oct 14, and finale slated for Nov 19.
Social media was flooded with comments from dismayed netizens, describing the scenes as "unpleasant" and lamenting the authorities for not living up the fans’ expectations.
Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar took to ‘X’, commonly known as Twitter, and shared his thoughts about the empty stands during the World Cup opener between England and New Zealand.
