She welcomes the ICC decision to equal the prize money for men, women cricket

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Nida Dar has called for equal pay for men and women players, saying it would encourage the cricketers to give their best while playing for the country.

The right-handed batter, in an interview, hoped that the time was not far when women cricketers will receive pay equal to men players.

She expressed the views while welcoming the decision of the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced equal prize money for men’s and women’s teams at ICC events.

Ms Dar said she was waiting for the ICC decision since long, adding that it was a positive gesture to treat players of both genders equally. She said she was happy to see the end to the gender-based discrimination.

She said most of the countries had adopted parity in salaries of men and women cricketers, hoping that Pakistan would soon follow the pattern. She also acknowledged several positive development in national cricket for women.

Dar, who is also known as “lady boom boom” by her fans, said trend for women cricket was getting steam as women were taking interest in the game. She also encouraged women to take up cricket as a profession.
