Javed Afridi welcomes Najam Sethi's remarks on revival of cricket in Peshawar

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Peshawar Zalmi CEO Javed Afridi has welcomed Najam Sethi’s statement regarding holding of international matches in the city.

Mr Sethi, who recently took charge as head of the management committee of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), said Peshawar would host international cricket like other cities.

In a media talk outside the PCB headquarters, Mr Sethi said that Peshawar would host international matches in 2023 as the construction of Arbab Niaz Stadium would be completed by June next year.

“Peshawar is not a red flag at all. If we can bring cricket to Karachi, so why can’t we bring it to Peshawar”? he said while responding to a question.

In response, Mr Afridi welcomed the remarks and maintained that the people of Peshawar were eager to see cricket in their city. "Peshawar fans are eager to watch PSL, international cricket in their city. The people of this city and province have made great sacrifices for peace in the country," said Mr Afridi.

"Zalmi has always tried to revive cricket in the country along with PCB. Inshallah PSL 9 will take place at Arbab Niaz Stadium,” he added. He also hailed the contributions to the revival of international cricket by former Zalmi captain Darren Sammy and the rest of the foreign players.

After Mr Sethi’s appointment as the PCB chairman, Pakistan cricketer Mohammad Amir congratulated him and said "the right man has been appointed for the right job".
