LAHORE (Dunya News) – Former Pakistan skipper and veteran batsman Mohammad Hafeez on Wednesday congratulated Fawad Alam on his superb knock in the first Test against New Zealand.

The veteran batsman took to the twitter to congratulate 35-year-old and said, “Alam’s hard work and dedication has proved his critics wrong.”

“Ur [Your] hard work, dedication & resilience proved many many wrong. Respect, well done & congratulations on scoring second Test hundred,” Hafeez tweeted.

Hafeez also lauded the Pakistan side for showing character and fighting till the last breath.

"Team Pakistan Flag of Pakistan proud of U on showing a great resilient attitude & fought hard till the end. Strong Character shown Stay strong and comeback harder iMRizwanPa iamfawadalam25 #PakvsNz," he tweeted.

Alam made a comeback to Test cricket after a gap of 10 years and 259 days during the Test match against England in Southampton. The 3910-day break from his last Test in 2009 till 2020 was not the longest but it felt like an eternity. After being dismissed for 0 in England, Fawad Alam was included in the Test squad for the two-match series against New Zealand which is also part of the ICC World Test Championship.

After 4000 days, more than three months after his Test comeback, Fawad Alam showed his mettle as he smashed a century and put Pakistan on course to saving the Test match at the Bay Oval in Mount Maunganui on Wednesday.

Fawad Alam s second Test ton and Mohammad Rizwan s fifth Test half-century went in vain as New Zealand defeated Pakistan by 101 runs. Day five of the first Test was an emotional joy ride. With Fawad and Pakistan skipper Rizwan weathering the storm in the first two sessions, it almost looked like the game will be drawn as the duo stitched the eighth-longest fourth-innings partnership of all time.

However, New Zealand pacers denied visitors a draw as Pakistan lost all six wickets in the concluding session of the match. Hafeez lauded the Pakistan side for showing character and fighting till the last breath.
