Misbah-ul-Haq steps down as Pakistan's chief selector

LAHORE (Dunya News) – Misbah-ul-Haq has on Wednesday stepped down as Pakistan national men’s cricket team chief selector and decided to serve only as the head coach.
Misbah-ul-Haq made a formal announcement pertaining to his decision in a news conference and said, “The decision to quit as chief selector is entirely my own and there was no pressure on me.
“Being head coach of Pakistan team, I was facing difficulties to perform duty as chief selector. I have apprised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) of my decision and my focus now is to improve the team.”
Sources privy to the matter have informed that the PCB will appoint former pacer Mohammad Akram – who represented Pakistan in nine Tests and 23 one-day international (ODIs) – as the new chief selector.
The new chief selector will begin his tenure from 1 December and until then, Misbah will continue to carry out selection responsibilities, which means Misbah will announce the squads for the home series against Zimbabwe on 19 October and then for the away series against New Zealand.
Misbah-ul-Haq was appointed as Pakistan’s chief selector and head coach in September 2019 after the PCB decided not to renew contracts of former chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq and head coach Mickey Arthur.
The 46-year-old was criticized by cricket experts and fans for keeping two posts at a time and questions were raised over his performance also after Pakistan lost Test series in England this summer.
