Sarfaraz Ahmad asks Qalandars to bat first in match 11 of PSL 2017

SHARJAH  (Dunya News) - Quetta Gladiators beat Lahore Qalandars by five wickets as they registered one of the best chases in PSL so far.
Batting first, Lahore Qalandars scored 200 runs for the loss of 3 wickets as Roy 51, Fakhar Zaman 47 and Rizwan 46 were the leading scorers.

Quetta Gladiators chased the target in 18.5 overs as Kevin Pieterson scored a brilliant knock of 88 not out and gave his side a thrashing victory over Lahore Qalandars. With this win, Quetta goes on the top of the table once again. KP was declared man of the match for his masterpiece innings. 

Earlier, in a cruical encounter of PSL 2017, the mighty Quetta Gladiators opt to ball first after winning the toss. 

Under the captaincy of Brendon McCullum, Lahore Qalandars are a tough contender for the opponent at the second edition of PSL while Sarfaraz Ahmad at this match has decided to play without Asad Shafiq.

Quetta Gladiators Innings

Over 18.5  I Score 202/5 I Anwar Ali 12*, Kevin Pieterson 88*

With 77 runs needed of the last 30 balls and KP-Sarfaraz duo on the crease, the match is undoubtedly going to have everyone’s heart racing. Srafaraz hits a huge one for six of the last ball of Sohail Tanvir’s over. In the next over, KP reaches to his fifty in style as he lofts two consecutive sixes in Narine’s over. Sarfaraz also joins the party as he disappeared one for another six of the fourth ball of the over. A total of 21 runs were scored of Narine’s over. In the next over, Irfan Jr was welcomed by Pieterson with a huge six.

Moreover, 26 runs came of Irfan Jr over as he was hit for four sixes by Peterson in the eighteenth over. Quetta now needs 15 runs of the last two overs as Sarfaraz lofts one forfour more of the first ball of the penultimate over. However, Sohail came back strongly as he removed Sarfaraz of the next ball. Anwar Ali came into bat and hit a maximum for six of the first ball he faced of Sohail Tanvir’s over. Anwar Ali finished things off in style while hitting the winning short for four more. Quetta Gladiators chased 201 target with 7 balls to spare.

Bilawal Bhatti soon after being hot for four on the first ball of the eleventh over walks of the field as he seemed to be in pain. Delport came in to complete the over as he removed Perera of the penultimate ball who was caught by the substitute fielder at long-off. Perera fails to impress as he departs after scoring just one run. Not a single boundary was hit in the next two overs bowled by Irfan Jr and Yasir Shah.

However, the skipper took the charge in Delport over as he hit one four and one four and a sixes in Delort over as Peterson also managed to hit a six of the last ball. Delport conceded 17 runs in the fourteenth over of the innings. Yasir Sha bowled rather an economical over as only five runs came of his over.

Over 10 I Score 84/3 I Perera 1*, Kevin Peterson 28*

Bilawal Bhatti get a fair enough beat up in the sixteenth over as 16 runs were scored of his very first over. Rossouw launched one over long-on six of the penultimate ball of Bilawal’s over followed by a four over square leg of the last ball. Pietersen also joins the party as he hits Narine for a huge six over long-on boundary. In the next over, he also smashed one away for four more of Yasir Shah’s bowling. On the last ball, Rossouw comes down the wicket and lofts one towards mid-wicket for six.
However, this time once again the emerging fast bowler Muhammad Irfan provided the most needed breakthrough as he removed the dangerous Rossouw who was caught by Bilawal Bhatti while he was trying to clear mid-off boundary.

With 201 runs to chase, Quetta Gladiators had been given a tough task to accomplish. Saad Nasim and Ahmad Shehzad open the innings for Quetta. Shahzad punched one for four of the second ball of Sohail Tanvir’s first over. Narine came into ball in the second over as he bowled brilliantly well and just four runs came of his over. Sohail Tanvir removed Saad Nasim in his second over as he was caught behind by Muhammad Rizwan. Saad departs after scoring 5 runs. A boundary came of the last ball as Shehzad throws his bat at the ball and the ball crossed third man boundary in the process.

Meanwhile, the promising young bowler Muhammad Irfan removed Ahmad Shahzad as the batsman drag the ball into the stumps. Rossouw came and started the proceeding with aggression as he scored two boundaries in Irfan Jr over.

Lahore Qalandars Innings

Over 20  I  Score 200/3  I  Muhammad Rizwan 46*, CS Delport 35*

Rizwan continued with the aggression as he hits a huge one for six towards midwicket. The seventeenth over from Nawaz proved to be an expensive one for Quetta as 21 runs were scored of it with Delport and Rizwan hitting one six each in the over. Delport also took the charge in the next over of Parera as he whips one over square leg for six.
Delport and Rizwan have carried the innings with pace so far as they are looking forward to a huge total on the board. Fourteen runs were scored of the penultimate over by Anwar Ali as Deloprt dispatched one straight over the bowler’s head for six. Rizwan bashed a full-toss from Parera for six in the last over as the duo helped Lahore for registering 200 runs on the board for the first time in PSL 2017.

Over 15  I  Score 135/3  I  Muhammad Rizwan 14*, CS Delport 3*

The fast pace with which the Gladiators were moving ahead was put to a halt as Umar Akmal departs in the eleventh over. He was caught by Mahmudullah of the bowling of Hasan Khan. Only 9 runs were scored of the two overs after half-way stage. Fakhar Zaman hits a huge one for six over long-on of the bowling of Hasan Khan in the thirteenth over however as he was about to get the second consecutive fifty in PSL, the new emerging talent threw away his wicket in an effort to clear deep midwicket boundary. He was caught by Ahmad Shahzad of the bowling of Zulfiqar Babar. Rizwan took the charge in fifteenth over as he hit straight over the bowler’s head for six on the penultimate ball of the 15th over.

Over 10  I  Score 103/1  I  Umar Akmal 13*, Fakhar Zaman 36*

Meanwhile, Jason Roy reached to his fifty of just 24 balls as he gave Lahore Qalandars a flying start in the first match of the day. A total of 13 runs were scored of Nawaz’s fifth over as Zaman hits a boundary of the last ball straight over the bowler’s head. With all his options proving to be worthless, the skipper introduced Hasan Khan in the seventh over. The promising young bowler provided the breakthrough that Gladiators were most desperately looking forward to while cleaning up the dangerous Roy of fouth ball. Meanwhile, Fakhar Zaman continued with his shots and scored two boundaries in the next over. Umar Akmal also joins the party as he hit a huge six over cover of Hasan Khan’s bowling. At half-way stage, Qalndars were eyeing towards a colossal total on the board with nine wickets remaining.

Over 5  I  Score 62/0  I  JJ Roy 41*, Fakhar Zaman 18*

The skipper started the proceedings as he brought Zulfiqar Babar in the first over of the match. Jason Roy and Fakhar Zaman started the innings aggressively as 13 runs were scored in the first over. Anwar Ali bowled the second over and hit good areas of the surface while conceding one four and a total of six runs in the over. The second over from Zulfiqar also proved to be an expensive one as 12 runs were scored from this over also. As Anwar Ali comes into ball in the fourth over, Jason Roy hit him for two maximums at penultimate and last balls of the over for six as he the runs came in full speed for the Qalandars. In addition, 14 runs were also scored from the fifth over by Parera.

At the end of five overs, Qalndars were 62 for the loss of no wicket as the dream start was given by the openers.
