Summary Weekly inflation rose 0.28% while annual inflation reached 9.29%, with prices of 20 essential items increasing, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics' latest SPI report.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Pakistan's weekly inflation increased by 0.28% during the latest week, while the annual inflation rate rose to 9.29%, according to the weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) report released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).

The report showed that prices of 20 essential commodities increased over the past week, while the prices of nine items declined.

On a weekly basis, onion prices recorded the highest increase of 10.14%, followed by chicken at 9.19%, gram pulse at 2.43%, chilli powder at 1.01%, ghee and cooking oil at 0.99%, tea at 0.57%, and wheat flour at 0.52%.

Meanwhile, the prices of tomatoes fell by 6.82%, LPG by 1.90%, diesel by 1.66%, petrol by 0.63%, bananas by 1.20%, sugar by 0.51%, and plain bread by 0.29% during the week.

On an annual basis, tomato prices surged by 178.03%, onions by 84.65%, wheat flour by 80.02%, LPG by 53.83%, diesel by 34.44%, and petrol by 25.97%, the report said.

The prices of chilli powder increased by 16.37% year-on-year, followed by mutton at 16.12%, bananas at 15.11%, beef at 13.81%, and plain bread at 9.37%.

The report also noted significant annual declines in the prices of several commodities. Potato prices dropped by 30.65%, gram pulse by 17.86%, sugar by 17.60%, chicken by 15.65%, powdered salt by 14.09%, masoor pulse by 13.02%, eggs by 9.66%, and moong pulse by 6.25%.
