Summary Consumers may face higher electricity bills as CPPA has sought a Rs1.72 per unit increase under fuel cost adjustment for April, with NEPRA set to hear the request
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Electricity consumers may face an additional financial burden as a proposal has been submitted seeking an increase of Rs1.72 per unit in power tariffs under the monthly fuel cost adjustment mechanism.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has filed a request with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), which is scheduled to hear the petition today.
The proposed increase relates to the fuel cost adjustment for April and, if approved, will result in higher electricity charges for consumers across the country.
According to the request, the proposed hike would add Rs1.72 per unit to electricity tariffs, increasing the cost of power for millions of consumers.
NEPRA will examine the CPPA's petition during the hearing before making a decision on whether the requested adjustment should be passed on to consumers.
If approved by the regulator, the increase will be applicable to consumers of all power distribution companies, including K-Electric and other DISCOs.
The proposed adjustment is part of the fuel cost mechanism through which changes in power generation costs are reflected in consumer electricity bills.
