ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – In the wake of rising mercury, the Power Division has initiated steps to increase electricity production to meet its demand.

According to sources, the Power Division has initiated steps to increase electricity production, and in this regard, it has written a letter to the Petroleum Division regarding the supply of LNG.

Similarly, in the letter, the Power Division has requested 400 MMCFD gas for power generation, stating that the supply of LNG has become indispensable for power generation.

Sources said that with the increase in the intensity of the heat, there is a risk of an increase in the shortfall. If production from LNG plants is not started, the shortfall may become uncontrollable. LNG plants have a capacity of 6,000 MW of electricity.

On the other hand, the letter states that production from spot cargoes will be less expensive than diesel furnace oil, the unavailability of LNG will increase dependence on diesel, and this move could place a heavy burden on consumers in terms of monthly fuel adjustments.

In addition, the Power Division has provided an estimate of supply and demand in the coming weeks, and K-Electric has also informed about the LNG requirements.
