Sindh government introduces CNIC-linked vehicle number plates, allowing owners to retain plates across vehicles, aiming to modernise registration systems and improve record transparency.
KARACHI (Dunya News) – Sindh has introduced a new vehicle registration system under which car owners will be recognised as number plate holders based on their Computerised National Identity Card (CNIC).
According to officials in Karachi, the reform has been implemented through amendments to the Provincial Motor Vehicles Act 2024.
The notification was issued by the Excise Taxation and Narcotics Control Department Sindh, which also announced the launch of two new vehicle number plate series linked to CNIC records.
Provincial Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla approved the implementation of the revised law.
Under the new policy, vehicle owners will be allowed to transfer previously registered number plates, linked to their CNIC, to newly purchased vehicles.
