Goods transporters announce end to nationwide strike as talks succeed

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Negotiations between the government and goods transporters have borne fruit, prompting transporters across Pakistan to call off their strike, bringing relief to businesses and industries.

Addressing a press conference at the Gulbai Truck Stand, Goods Transporters Association President Malik Shehzad said the strike was being withdrawn based on the government’s assurances. He added that all key demands of the transporters have been accepted, clearing the way for a return to normal operations.

The strike, which lasted for nearly 10 days, had disrupted the supply of raw materials to industries, bringing business activities to a grinding halt. Malik Shehzad said the government showed flexibility on several issues, and the strike was ended as soon as official notifications were issued.

Industrial circles have welcomed the decision, saying the resumption of transport services will help industries get back on track. With the strike over, transportation has resumed nationwide and factories have started reopening.

Iron Merchants Association President Hammad Punawala said many industries were on the brink of closure due to shortages of raw materials. He added that iron traders and other business sectors were suffering losses worth billions of rupees during the strike period.
