Consumers to face additional Rs66bn burden
ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) - The government has increased the price of electricity by Rs7.5 per unit.
The National Electric Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has issued a notification of the increase in electricity prices in the context of monthly fuel adjustment.
The hike in prices will put an additional burden of Rs66 billion on power consumers.
According to the notification, the increase in electricity prices will be applied to the bills of the current month.
The increase will not be applied to electricity consumers including Lifeline and K-Electric.
The increase in electricity prices will be applied only for one month.
According to sources, expensive electricity was generated in January from diesel at Rs45.60 per unit, and from furnace oil at 35.43 per unit.
It should be noted that the recent increase in electricity prices is due to January's fuel cost adjustment.
