(Web Desk) – The government is prioritising the restructuring of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) with the aim of enhancing its governance, efficiency and effectiveness, Radio Pakistan has reported.

A press release from the Finance Division highlights that specific proposals, aligned with international best practices, have been formulated.

These proposals intend to rationalise and streamline FBR functions, fortify the FBR policy board and improve overall governance, integrity and performance.

A creative oversight structure is proposed to augment accountability to both the state and clients.

The envisaged restructuring involves the establishment of specialised administrative structures, coupled with enhanced delegation and accountability in administration.

The government is contemplating an institutional mechanism to create a Tax Policy group, equipped with the requisite expertise and analytical capability.

This group aims to facilitate the rationalisation of the tax regime, emphasising fairness and equity.

These proposals result from extensive deliberations and consultations conducted by the government, involving experts, academics, and senior leadership from the FBR.

Importantly, the proposals explicitly exclude any elements related to downsising the workforce or external interference in the administrative matters of Customs or Inland Revenue service by other agencies or ministries.
