Under the scheme taxes will be levied on electricity bills of shopkeepers

 ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - The government has decided to impose taxes on shopkeepers in next year's budget, fulfilling the condition of the International Monetary Fund (IMF). The IMF has recommended to bring 2 million shopkeepers into the tax net.

According to sources, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is preparing a special scheme to levy taxes on shopkeepers earning more than Rs.10 Million annually. Under the scheme, taxes will be levied on electricity bills of shopkeepers, and electricity distribution companies will collect taxes from shopkeepers under the electricity bills.

Shopkeepers falling in the special scheme will be included in the active taxpayers' list. The scheme will be launched for shopkeepers and service providers earning an annual income of Rs.10 million
