Interior minister directed departments to take stern action against those involved in smuggling
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Federal Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah decided to take action against smuggling of essential commodities while presiding over a meeting attended by the representatives of different departments.
Under the leadership of the Minister of Interior Rana Sanaullah, a meeting was held to discuss measures to curb the smuggling of wheat, sugar, and fertilizer. The meeting was also attended by Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Commerce Minister Syed Naveed Qamar.
National Food Security Minister Tariq Bashir Cheema, Industries Minister Makhdoom Murtaza Mahmood, secretary Interior, Chairman Federal Board of Revenue Asif Ahmed, and representatives of several federal and provincial departments were also present in the meeting.
Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah stated that smuggling of essential commodities is encouraging a crisis in the country. He directed the participants to take action against those involved in smuggling goods. He added that strict action should be taken against government officials and staff involved in smuggling. Joint operations by agencies and intelligence sharing should be enhanced. Joint check-posts and joint patrolling should be ensured.
The Interior Minister stressed on making the border control systems more effective, and inter-provincial transportation should be monitored more closely. Action must be taken against hoarding, he added.
Rana Sanaullah stated that measures must be taken to stop smuggling, and if necessary, laws should be amended, the ministry of law and FBR should act efficiently in this regard.
