The district government has not yet released a notification

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The increase trend in prices for Roti and Nan is still continuing in the provincial market as the district government has failed to ensure prices at official rates.

Roti is being sold for Rs18 and Naan for Rs30 without any further notification.

Earlier, the district government and the Roti Nanbai Association were still at a standstill over the pricing of ‘Roti’ due to political unrest.

In Lahore, the price of bread was automatically raised by Rs2 and resultantly instead of selling one ‘Roti’ for Rs14, it is now being sold for Rs16. However, the district government has not yet released a notification regarding the rise in the price.

By automatically increasing the price by Rs2, the Nanbai Association has opposed the administration s writ.

According to Aftab Gul, president of the Nanbai Association, the additional load was not being supported as they were unable to pay the employees’ salaries. He said that if the government retaliates they will choose the route of protest by sealing the ovens.

On the other hand, Deputy Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali warned that tandoor proprietors will face a stern crackdown if they raise the price.

It should be noted that the price climbed from Rs12 to Rs14 in accordance with the official notice two and a half months ago and has since increased by Rs4.
