Pakistan not facing risk of default, says Ayesha Ghaus Pasha

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Minister of State for finance Dr Ayesha Ghaus Pasha on Tuesday said that the government had paid sukuk bonds and Pakistan was not facing the risk of an economic default.

While talking to media, the minister said that talks were going on with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) adding that the country intended to complete the IMF program.

Ms Ayesha further said that the incumbent government got the country on the verge of default adding that the country needs $16 billion to recover the losses incurred due to floods.

Talking about the next tranche of the IMF, she said that the next tranche would be released after approval by the IMF board. Talks with the World Bank, Asian Development Bank, and other monetary organization were going on, she added.

Addressing the concerns regarding country’s economic default, Dr Pasha said that the crisis was not severe enough to lead the country to economic default adding that the country had ample resources [to face the risk].
