Flour prices on the rise despite large wheat import

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – It has been reported that flour prices in the country have risen despite the government spending billions to import more than 1.5 million metric tonnes of wheat. In just one week, a 20 kg flour bag has become more expensive by Rs 130 in Peshawar, Rs 80 in Sukkur and Rs 15 in Quetta, while Karachi residents are forced to buy the most expensive flour in the country.

Although the price of flour did come down initially, they are now back on the rise. A 20 kg bag of flour costs Rs 1,330 in Peshawar, Rs 1,200 in Sukkur and Rs 1,265 in Quetta, registering a rise of Rs 130, Rs 80 and Rs 15 respectively.

According to the Bureau of Statistics, a bag of flour is being sold at Rs 1340 in Karachi, Rs 1240 in Hyderabad, Rs 1150 in Bannu and Rs 1200 in Khuzdar and Multan.

In Islamabad, a bag of flour costs Rs 870 while in Rawalpindi, Lahore, Gujralwala, Faisalabad, Sargodha and Bahawalpur, it costs Rs 860. According to the Bureau, a 20 kg bag of flour has gone up by an average of Rs 5.3 in the last one week.
