Over 6000 surplus staff adding burden to PIA

PIA is facing loss of Rs 31.50 million daily raising the ratio above Rs 1 billion per month.

 

ISLAMABAD: Over 6000 additional crew is working in PIA despite the fact the entity is running into loss of Rs 13 billion per annum.


As per statistics collected from PIA, the national airlines have to incur additional expenses of over Rs 1.10n billion per year on account of salaries and perks of the additional and surplus staff.


The sanctioned staff of PIA stands at 17410 but on the contrary 23526 including 3058 daily wages employees are working therein.


PIA is facing loss of Rs 31.50 million daily raising the ratio above Rs 1 billion per month.


On the other side PIA management has decided to phase out 3000 employees in the next year. However the incumbent government is not in favor of any move aimed at removing the employees in the face of upcoming general election.


According to statistics collected by a private news agency, a crew numbering 357 is deployed in every plane while crew numbering 150 is required in line with the international standard set by civil aviation.
