US Defense Secretary Robert Gates has announced that he plans to increase the size of the U.S. Army by up to 22,000 troops. He said that these soldiers would be recruited temporarily to lessen the militarys burden. Addressing a press conference in Washington he said that a lot had been changed in the last two years. He said that he was taking a note of it that whether or not US had the enough soldiers for the ongoing military operations. He said that from last many years operations were in progress in Iraq and Afghanistan thus decreasing the required number of soldiers. He said that US needed more soldiers and he had the complete support of Obama for the purpose. He said that this need was of temporary nature. He said that the addition in the US Army would be done in two to three years. He ruled out the recruitment of soldiers meant sending of more troops to Iraq and Afghanistan.
