Summary
Vice-President Joe Biden has denied Washington will put Iraq on the bottom shelf, even as the US military ramps up operations in Afghanistan and crises rumble on in North Korea, Iran and Pakistan.Speaking after his departure from Baghdad, Mr Biden said yesterday that Iraq's political leaders were very concerned that ... they would be on the front-burner. Iraqi spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh had earlier said, in comments directed at Mr Biden, that the US should back off in its attempts to resolve the country's sects, adding such interference could make matters worse. Mr Biden cited his presence in the country, where he assumed a new position as President Barack Obama's point man on Iraq, as a sign of the US commitment.
