EU disapproves of US unilateral travel ban
There are more than 126,000 cases of coronavirus globally.
(Reuters) - The European Union said on Thursday it disapproved of the U.S. decision to impose a unilateral travel ban on European countries.
"The European Union disapproves of the fact that the U.S. decision to impose a travel ban was taken unilaterally and without consultation," said the European Commission’s chief spokesperson Eric Mamer, adding that the EU is taking "strong" measures to limit the spread of the virus.
After being criticised for his government’s response to the coronavirus outbreak, U.S. President Donald Trump pulled out all the stops on Wednesday with a month-long travel restriction to the United States from Europe. This order does not apply to Britain or to Americans undergoing "appropriate screenings," Trump said.
There are now more than 126,000 cases of coronavirus globally, after the World Health Organization called the outbreak a pandemic for the first time on Wednesday (March 11), and more than 4,600 have died, according to a Reuters.
