Pope prays for victims of Mali and Nigeria attack

Pope expressed his sorrow for the victims of attacks in Nigeria and Mali and prayed for them.

Web Desk (Reuters) - Pope Francis on Sunday (March 24) expressed his sorrow for the victims of attacks in Nigeria and Mali, praying for "the many victims of the latest inhuman attacks".

"May the Lord welcome these victims, heal the wounded, comfort the family members and convert the cruel hearts" Pope Francis said, addressing worshippers in St. Peter s Square.

Gunmen killed at least 134 Fulani herders in central Mali on Saturday (March 23), a local mayor said, the deadliest such attack of recent times in a region reeling from worsening ethnic and jihadist violence.

The assaults on the villages of Ogossagou and Welingara took place as a U.N. Security Council mission visited Mali seeking solutions to violence that killed hundreds of civilians last year.
