CCTV footage of Swedish helicopter heist is released
Swedish prosecutors on Monday charged 10 men with robbery for stealing $5.3 million from a Stockholm cash depot last year in a helicopter heist.Newly released footage of the robbery shows a helicopter landing on the roof of a security company housing a cash depot. The gang is seen smashing their way into the glass-domed ceiling and climbing down a ladder. Grainy footage shows the thieves in action, using explosives and a mechanical saw to get to the money. The gang then loaded the loot into the helicopter before taking-off. The robbery was well planned with objects spread out near the facility in an attempt to hinder the police from approaching the scene fast and police helicopters located on a nearby island were unable to respond to the emergency call following sabotage. The helicopter, which police said was stolen, was later found near a lake in the northern suburbs of the capital. But despite the gang's meticulous planning, District Prosecutor Leif Gorts told a news conference on Monday the police had been aware of the plot. Among those facing charges include two who were in the helicopter, one person who sabotaged the police helicopters and two who were involved in blocking the streets around the cash depot.
