The long standing allegation was revived after the English media reported that French President Nicolas Sarkozy is alleged to have received the illegal payments worth millions of pounds during 1994 in a case involving the sale of French submarines to Pakistan.According to an investigations report published in British Newspaper Time Online, President Sarkozy made a fake company to conclude the deal. The newspaper also claimed that the money is also said to have funded the 1995 French presidential campaign of former Prime Minister Edouard Balladur.It is pertinent to note that the deal referred to was the sale of three Agosta 90B submarines to Pakistan for Euro 800 million (Rs 4,800 crore).
