Pak, US dont have same objectives in Afghanistan: Manmohan
Updated on

Summary

Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has left for a five-day official visit of US. He claimed that Pakistan wanted the US troops pull out from Afghanistan to have a control on it. In an interview with a US magazine Manmohan said that Pakistan and US dont have the same objectives in Afghanistan. We are concerned about the rise of terrorism in Pakistan. We have been the victims of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism for a long period of time. Now, if the Taliban and Al Qaeda type of terror, which in the past was located in the [tribal] area of Pakistan, gets transferred to the mainland of Pakistan, I think it has very serious consequences for our own security. We would not like terrorism to lead to a situation where the [Pakistani] civilian government is only a nominal government. We would like democracy to succeed in Pakistan, he maintained.
