Summary
The United Nations marked World Food Day on Friday, a few days after two of its agencies said more than 1 billion people are malnourished. World Food Day is meant to bring attention to the issue of hunger on earth. This year's theme is achieving food security in times of crisis. Earlier this week the United Nation's Food and Agriculture Organization and the World Food Program issued a report saying the recent economic crisis caused an increase in the number of the world's hungry. It said about one-sixth of the world's population was characterized as hungry or undernourished. Nearly all of those affected were in poor and undeveloped countries. According to report, the world has made little progress in reducing hunger since 1990.
