Summary

Rescuers continue to search for bodies in northern Philippines which was devastated by floods and mudslides triggered by two typhoons in 14 days. But in La Trinidad, a village in the north of the country near where the calamity took place, preparations were under way to bury the hundreds who were killed. Rows of coffins filled a basketball court where family members of victims mourn the dead.Using shovels and their bare hands to avoid triggering more landslides, rescue teams kept up a search for bodies in the areas of northern Luzon island that remained isolated. Roads are cut off and transportation of relief goods have been difficult. Besides setting off landslides in the mountains, rains dumped by Typhoon Parma have swollen rivers and reservoirs, causing dams used for hydropower and irrigation to spill water which caused more flooding in areas downstream.
