Summary
White House National Security Advisor James Jones says that there is no chance of Taliban to come into power in Afghanistan despite the increasing activities of the militant groups. In an interview with an American channel he maintained, I do not foresee the return of the Taliban. Afghanistan is not in imminent danger of falling. The Al-Qaeda presence is very diminished, the maximum estimate is less than 100 operating in the country, no bases, no ability to launch attacks on either us or our allies, he added. Jones noted the government of Afghan President Hamid Karzai must improve saying that the Afghan government was going to have to pitch in and do much better than they have. The Afghan government will have to take steps for the rule of law and eliminating corruption. He stressed the need of action against militants in North and South Waziristan areas of Pakistan.
