Summary Turkey says it is extending its command of the NATO peacekeeping operation in the Afghan capital.
The Foreign Ministry said Thursday that Turkey has agreed to lead the Kabul Regional Command for one more year from Nov. 1. Turkey, NATOs largest Muslim member, has been leading the command in Kabul since 2009, after a previous eight-month stint in 2007.Turkey has more than 1,000 troops in Kabul on non-combat duties, including the training of Afghan security forces. The Kabul command assists Afghanistan in its reconstruction and security.Turkeys leaders have said the country has no plans to withdraw troops and that its soldiers will remain in Afghanistan as long as they are needed.
