Iran, N. Korea sign MoU on scientific, academic cooperation

Summary Iran and North Korea signed endorsed an MoU on cooperation in scientific and academic fields.

Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in a ceremony attended by Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and President of North Koreas Supreme Peoples Assembly (SPA) Presidium Kim Yong Nam in Tehran on Saturday.The MoU was signed by Iranian Science, Research and Technology Minister Farhad Daneshjou and Korean Foreign Minister Pak Ui Chun.The document required mutual cooperation in various scientific and technological grounds between Iran and North Korea and is expected to cause a leap in the scientific ties between the two Asian nations.Earlier in the day, President Ahmadinejad received Kim Yong Nam at his office in Central Tehran, where the two sides discussed an array of issues, specially mutual cooperation.A number of Irans cabinet members including Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade Mehdi Ghazanfari, Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi, Head of Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Fereydoon Abbasi Davani and some other Iranian officials were present in the welcoming ceremony of the North Korean official to the Presidential Office on Saturday.The Iranian president and the North Korean official reviewed the latest international and regional developments at the meeting.Kim Yong Nam and his accompanying delegation arrived in Tehran earlier this week to attend the 16th Non-Aligned.
