Summary Scores of people have abandoned their homes as fire spread in Algarve region of Portugal.
Fires raged in the hills of the Serra do Caldeirão, Tavira and Sao Bras de Alportel in Portugals Algarve overnight on Saturday.Six firefighters suffered minor injuries fighting the blaze.The fire destroyed five houses, and injured six firefighters Portuguese TV RTP reported.Tavira experienced the most serious fires and more than 900 firefighters from throughout the country were sent to fight the blaze.They are being supported by 239 vehicles and have backup from army troops, the National Authority of Civil Protection said.
