US Chairman Joint Chief of Staff Admiral Mike Mullen has said that there was an emergency situation in Afghanistan and the time was limited for the US to show some successes. Talking to media in Washington, Mike Mullen said that it would be difficult to defeat al Qaeda after the withdrawal of the US forces from Afghanistan. I certainly don't think it's time to leave, he said. Mullen said US troops needed to remain on the ground for now. Answering a question regarding the number of new US troops in Afghanistan, Mullen said that the number of troops would be decided on necessity basis, and opinion of the Congress would be taken by the Pentagon in this regard.
