China says Pentagon hypes Chinese military threat

Annual Pentagon report to Congress on China's military is groundless and wrong, an official said.

Chinas Defense Ministry is accusing the Pentagon of hyping Chinese military power and its threat to Taiwan in a depiction that will ultimately undermine ties between the two militaries.Ministry spokesman Geng Yansheng said the annual Pentagon report to Congress on Chinas military is groundless and wrong. He says that the report exaggerates Chinese defense capabilities, makes false claims about Chinese cyber-warfare and plays up a military edge over rival Taiwan to boost U.S. weapon sales.The Pentagon report always draws strenuous objections from Beijing. This years report outlined a Chinese military modernization effort that is gaining momentum.Geng said in the remarks posted on the ministry website that the Pentagon report will hurt efforts to build trust and improve ties between the militaries.
